FABRIC PAINTINGS

Opening next Friday the 26th of May is my first solo exhibition at Haydens titled Fabric Paintings.

This new series of works was conceived during a two-month residency at Lottozero Textile Laboratories in Prato, Italy, late last year, and I’m very excited to finally share the finished works next week.

Accompanying the exhibition will be a text written by Gabriella D’Costa, as well as a soft launch of a small publication I’ve been working on with Warren Taylor titled Ж! which documents my exhibition of the same name presented at Conners Conners last year. I give special thanks to the team at Lottozero; Alessandra Tempesti, Arianna and Tessa Moroder, Elena Ianeselli, Federica Valli, and the laboratory's intern at the time, Larisa Petcuț, for all of their assistance and support during my residency, as well as the Ian Potter Cultural Trust whose funding made my research there possible.

Weaving drafts in progress on the countermarch loom at Lottozero, Prato IT, November 2022.

‘The exhibition interprets traditional western modes of display through foundational weaving practice and an experimental use of free association... The Fabric Paintings are a group of diptychs and triptychs woven from a collection of Italian crossword puzzle patterns purchased from newsstands in Prato, with which I’ve interpreted as weaving drafts for my countermarch loom while in residence... This series continues my exploration into the field of expanded textiles, while playfully furthering an inquiry of the social and cultural shifts in values that map my personal time and place...’
